EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)

Using Emotional Freedom Technique  commonly known as ‘tapping’,  I can help you overcome stress, anxiety, overwhelm and the  many blocks to your success and happiness, that show up in your life.  I also give you a tool which can be used discretely by anyone, anywhere, whenever required.

This simple but effective technique was developed in the early 1990’s by Gary Craig, a Stanford-educated engineer, who sums it up as ‘accupressure without needles’.  It is my go to pressure release valve! It has much deeper and broader applications, however,  depending on the degree of anxiety or trauma being treated.  It can be applied successfully to anything.

 

What is EFT

95% of our reactions are based on what we have stored in our subconscious mind from our experiences of life and what we made of them at the time.  It is significant, therefore, to realise that we can still be operating on beliefs from perceptions we made at the age of  6 or younger.  EFT accesses the subconscious information through the body energy system known as meridians, by tapping on acupuncture points whist working on the issue at hand.  The negative energy disruption in the intricate, integration of electromagnetic systems that run through the body, heart and brain, can be cleared to allow relaxation and clearer mind to move forward with.

Wellbeing requires a balance of physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual/energy aspects of life.  Significantly, it is only recently that Western medicine has begun to recognise the importance of the body’s electromagnetic fields in regulating health.  We are a unified field of energy operating in wider fields of energy that influence each other.  From thoughts to all aspects of our environment are stored in various ways in our energy system, and when imbalance occurs illness follows.

We can have positive hopes or expectations for such things as health, happiness, success, appreciation, but these often seem out of reach. 

EFT is a very powerful key to unlock and eliminate undesirable effects on our energy system due to the ‘writings on our own wall’, by accessing and changing patterns held in the subconscious mind, that inhibit this sought after, greater sense of well being.

 

How it Works

Gary determined EFT’s foundation statement which states that, ‘all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body’s energy system’.  Tapping on meridian points whilst focussing on a given issue using affirmations, sends a signal to eliminate the negative energy and beliefs held in the body’s energy system.

More about EFT

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is  often known as ‘tapping’ as it involves tapping on the Chinese acupuncture meridian end points.  The Meridian system is an electrical energy pathway that is one of the body’s communication system.  It flows well when then there is good health and vitality.  Tapping whilst focussed on specific issues, sends kinetic pulses that home in to, and clear the electrical blockages that are casued by stressors to the system, that ultimately cause ill health.  You will be glad to know that ‘Tapping’ can be done without others knowing you are doing it whilst still being as effective as the full round shown below.

The meridian system is split into 12 pairs of meridian sections, it is a complete energy loop that runs through, and affects, all the major organs of the body, providing vital energy throughout.  Acupuncture is well known to be effective and in China it is combined with modern medical practice in their health service.  EFT uses focused kinetic impulses into the meridian system to clear the energy pathways.

Body Energy Disturbances & Negative Emotions

Gary Craig, founder of EFT, identifies negative emotions as ‘disruptions in the body’s energy system’.  EFT is a tool that is used to release those negative energy blockages.  By tapping on the meridian end points,  whilst focusing on a particular issue or belief,  allows aspects of that experience, stored in our subconscious, to become conscious and allow the energy disruption to be cleared.  This reduces anxiety and stress, and the associated biochemical response sent into the body.  The body’s own healing mechanisms are no longer impeded which facilitates better health and well being on many levels.

Operating System:  Conscious 5 % : Subconscous 95%

We tend to think our conscious mind as king but in fact it only controls about 5% of our lives.  Neuroscience has discovered that the subconscious mind, however, stores all that we learn and runs our lives 95% of the time.   We dont have to keep learning how to tie shoe laces, for example.   Our subconscious mind just stores what is learnt like a computer hard drive; we access it when needed,  performing like an operating system.  The conscious mind is the creative part that determines how we use this information, but it is our past experience of life  that drives perspective and responses.  The subconscious pictures of the memory from your life experience can be accessed and overwritten.

Why does this matter?

Conventional medicine has many tools available to help people with all sorts of physical, mental and emotional issues.  However, in many cases the cause of a disease is still not fully understood .  ‘Environmental stress’ is often sited as the cause.  The environment is not just external conditions but also the internal biochemistry, which is affected by our experiences and what we make of them at that time.  Understanding this takes us to the value of EFT.

EFT is a powerful tool to uncover beliefs and release congestion in the body’s energy system that arise from stress and anxiety from when those beliefs were formed.   Often we are not aware of the beliefs held in our subconscious.  Left unaddressed, the causal beliefs create patterns of response  to similiar stressors.  For example, a child runs in to show mum the mud pie she is so pleased with, but having run over mum’s clean white rug, mum was angry at her.  This becomes a trauma for the 3 year old with all the details (future trigger possibilities) of the time capsule of the event frozen in time.    She learnt that it was not safe to show her happiness.  As a 5 yr old, she shows her joy in her new dolly, and one of the other children said her dolly was stupid.  She realised too late that she had learnt that it wasnt safe to show her happiness.  A few years older and she comes home, pleased marks from her school homework.  So chuffed, she rushed to tell Dad but he was in his study not wanting to be disturbed, so she was again shouted at.  This becomes an issue stream through out her life… she forgot the original event…now she is wondering why she can never feel happy.  These events add to the field of accumulated negative energy, that finally expresses itself as dis-ease.

So, EFT is a form of relaxation of techniuque. Entering those time capsules, accessing the feelings that arise around  core beliefs,  those energy blockages can be released with EFT and Matrix work.   this reduces stress, and therefore the related biological responses, creating a more relaxed internal environment, in which the body’s own, natural function to heal itself can become more effective.  Profound!

Video to Introduce EFT

I am sharing a video produced by Jon Gabriel and Carol Look (EFT master and long time practitioner).  It is a wonderful introduction for those who do not know what EFT or ‘tapping’ is all about.     Jon’s weight loss story is an amazingly inspiring story in itself and his work has been to bring what he has learnt to others.  A key thing he learnt was that you have to release the emotional drivers to eating before all other efforts can be effective.  Carol give some insights as to how EFT gets to the deep issues beyond the symptoms presenting, that affect so many people.

As someone who has lived with weight issues all my life,  this application is something that drew me to EFT.  I look forward to setting up workshops to facilitate myself and others to progress healing in this area.  I am currently working with the principles of the Gabriel Method.

Self Help Tool

You can learn to do this for yourself for most small issues, and help is available to support you through bigger issues.   Some things can be alleviated in a single session, but most issues have lots of aspects to them.  So even if you don’t feel like the anxiety level has dropped much, there is likely to be other aspects to work on, but getting to core issues can collapse many associated aspects.  With persistence and self compassion, huge shifts can be achieved even if it takes longer for some issues than others.

EFT for Animals

EFT can also be very effective on animals.  The animal/owner/environment relationship will have an effect on an animal, so aspects of this need to be worked on due to animal’s great sensitivity.  EFT is done with the owner to deal with their emotional aspects relating to the undesirable behaviour or circumstance relating to the animal before tapping on the animal or using a surrogate whilst focusing on the animal.  Whilst this work is effective, the advice of the veterinary practitioner should always be sought.

Taking EFT Further

The training I have undertaken takes EFT a step further with Matrix Re-imprinting.  Emotional issues have many aspects to deal with and this can take time, but it is very useful to reduce high anxiety levels.  To facilitate further healing on a long term basis, Matrix Re-imprinting accesses the you at the time of a trauma and provides a new memory to operate from.

All our experiences are stored in the subconscious.  Trauma sets off a cascade of biochemical responses in the body as it goes into fight, flight or freeze mode. When there is opportunity to fly or fight, the energy is discharged.  The freeze mode literally takes all the aspects of the trauma and stores them, running in real time, all the time, in a separate energetic field within our subconscious, like a time capsule running all the time, in real time.  It affects our persepctives and  behaviours every day thereafter.

Matrix Reimprinting is a wonderful  and very powerful technique to facilitate change of the effect that memory has on your life.

Movie or Play?

If the problem feels like it has resurfaced, it is only an aspect of the issue that has not yet been addressed.   EFT is like a movie that you watch and deal with the aspects played in the scenes.  Whereas, Matrix work is like a play, that you can step into and interact with the whole story and individuals involved.  Matrix work goes a long way to providing a more profound change and providing a new and more positive point of attraction for future experiences.  Work in the matrix changes overwrites pictures held in the subconscious from the beliefs you made at the time of the trauma, big or small, and allows your perspective, and hence your experience of life, to change profoundly.

The Living Matrix

You may like to take a look at Bruce Lipton’s  documentary on The Living Matrix as this will give the science that supports the understanding of morphagenic fields  and DNA expression that are basically controlled by our beliefs.  He describes the science to support the process or overwriting the information stored to change the beliefs that ultimately affect our experience of life.  This science supports the very specific work EFT in the Matrix does on changing beliefs.
Video two, by Bruce Lipton, gives the science of how we are affected by our environment, showing that it is belief that controls our biology.

Children are in a super-learning state whilst in uterus and for the first 6 years of its’ life.  The subconscious mind downloads information from the environment so that perceptions become beliefs, which are built by observations of sensory informtion from the enviroment available to the child.

The subconscious mind is the most powerful programme that runs our day to day activity, not the consciuos mind.  This is relevant, because using the conscous mind to make change only has 5% influence, whereas  the subconscious mind controls 95% having stored all that we learn from our perceptions .

The conscious mind is creative, but the subconscious repeats the programme that has been learnt, over and over again.  But to change it you need to access the subconscious with a new learning experience.  Becoming cognitively aware of something does not change it in the subconscious, there has to be a process of recording new perceptions  to operate from.

EFT/Matrix work facilitates the individual to do change the program by overwriting with new perceptions and beliefs within the subconscious programming.

Full Tapping Procedure

EFT Basic Recipe

The basic EFT recipe is presented here by founder, Gary Craig, in his training videos, whilst the full tapping procedure is detailed below and is presented to illustrate the possible points available to tap upon.  Gary demonstrates the tapping points, and discusses the changing aspects that need to be handled as part of clearing an issue.  I prefer not to tap as hard as Gary in the videos.  The process is best done at a pace that is comfortable to you.

How is it done?

The tapping procedure accesses the energy pathways known by the Chinese as Meridians.  End points of meridians on the crown of the head, inner eye brow, outer eyebrow, under the eye, under the nose, under the lips, below the collar bone, under the arm, and on the outer nail bed of each of the fingers, finishing on the karate chop point on the side of the hand.

The full procedure is broken into the following stages (although in these are not all used all of the time when in a treatment session):

1.  Assess the emotional intensity out of 10.  (10 being as bad as it can get and 0 being no emotion relating to the issue at all.)

KC – Karate Chop Point on the soft  side, under the little finger TH – Top of the head (Crown) EB – Eye Brow SE – Side of the Eye UE – Under the Eye UN – Under the Nose UL – Under the Lip CB – Collar Bone UA – Under the Arm Th – Thumb IF – Index Finger MF – Middle Finger RF – Ring Finger LF – Little Finger 9G – 9 Gamut point
2.  A set up statement is devised from the issue: eg: ‘Even though I feel this anger I accept myself just as I am anyway.’ This set up statement is said three times whilst tapping on the karate chop point , on the soft pad at the side of the hand below the little finger. This is to focus on the issue and, by saying you accept yourself, allows the resistance to fall away.

3.  Using a reminder phrase, such as ‘This anger’ as a focus point, you tap through the meridian end points in sequence starting with the crown towards the back of the top of the head.

4.  Each end point has an effect on the different attributes of the sections of the meridian pathway, to clear the energy blockages caused by the negative aspects of the emotion focused upon. Two rounds are done, expressing other aspects that come up without going into the story. Eg, ‘This anger in my stomach.’ ‘Words stuck in my throat.’

5.   Reassess the emotional intensity. If above 2 then tap on ‘this remaining anger’ and follow the same process.

6.  Test the original emotion by focusing on the original issue and check the intensity. Clear any remaining intensity by repeating steps 2 to 4, until the intensity is down to 2 or below.

7.  The procedure will most likely bring up new insights to be worked on.  Occasionally there will be an apex moment when the issue is removed in one go, and it will seem incredible that it ever existed.  However, patience and persistence is required but the tool is available to you to use as and when you need it to bring the emotional charge of any issue down so you can react differently.

This tool can be applied on a self help basis for simple small ‘t’ traumas, although a practitioner support achieves a great deal more, especially when work it done in the matrix.   It is very important to seek the help of a qualified practictioner to work on big ‘T’ traumas, so please do not attempt this on your own.  Later you will see how the Matrix work goes deeper into resolving the issue more profoundly, but this needs to be done with a practitioner.

As previously indicated, this practice is complementary and provides astounding results in areas not often accessed by the medical profession.  However, you are advised to seek your doctor’s advice for the monitoring of your condition and in the management of regular medication and treatments administered appropriately, as the effects on your health and well being become apparent.

Decide on the emotion, and the set up phrase eg Even though I have this anger about my boss having upset me, I love and accept myself anyway’.  Asess it’s intensity out of 10.

Decide on the reminder phrase eg ‘This work issue anger’

Start with the Karate Chop point.  Tap lightly with the 4 fingers of the opposite hand over this area whilst you repeat your set up statement three times.  The set up statement focusses on the emotion that is presenting that you wish to clear.  Focus on this one emotion and how it makes you feel.  Take care not to include too many aspects at one time.

‘For results to be terrific it is best to be specific!’
